New Internet of Things Research Hub Created

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) has announced that a new UK interdisciplinary Research Hub has been created that will “drive forward research in the Internet of Things (IoT).” According to the announcement, “the PETRAS consortium of nine leading UK universities will work together over the next three years to explore critical issues in privacy, ethics, trust, reliability, acceptability, and security.” The universities include: UCL (University College London), Imperial College London, University of Oxford, University of Warwick, Lancaster University, University of Southampton, University of Surrey, University of Edinburgh and Cardiff University. Funding includes a £9.8 million grant from EPSRC with additional support provided by partners from both public and private sectors.

The Hub will focus on five themes:

  • Infrastructure
  • Health and care
  • Control systems and supply chains
  • Ambient environments
  • Identification
  • Transport and mobility
  • Design and behaviour
